Fans of Frank Herbert’s Duneseries are in for a long, lost treat. A fully illustrated and searchable online version of the long out of print Dune Encyclopedia has surfaced.
The book itself has a controversial history. Published in 1984, theEncyclopedia consists of 200 essays regarding the Duneuniverse, from Al-Harba to Jehanne Butler to the evolution of Arrakis and much, much more. The book was considered authorized at first, but was quietly given non-canon status as Herbert’s son continued to expand the Dune mythos through his own books. With the Dune universe continuing onwards, the Encyclopedia is now considered completely apocryphal.
Over at Gizmodo, they have an interesting article and some ideas on how to stop police and government agencies tracking your position with GPS. Of course, if they REALLY want to track you, they’re going to track you. From your credit card and ATM card purchases, to your cell phone usage, to your e-mail, vehicle, etc. But, if you just want a little piece of mind, or just want to see what they’re talking about, take a look.
The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals just decided that it was legal for the police to put a GPS tracking device on your car, sitting in your driveway, on your property. Here’show to protect yourself.
Matt’s post about the decision explains in depth about the ruling. To quickly summarize, the supreme court had said before that police can look through things that anyone in the public could come across, meaning, your driveway is freely accessible to the public, hence, the cops can look through it. The 9th circuit court now says that cops can shove a GPS locator onto your car, because the area is publicly accessible and you have no reasonable expectation of privacy there. Then said cops can use the GPS track you. Without a warrant.
Earlier today, there apparently was a gunman in the Discovery TV Building.
A man walked into the DTV building, took hostages, stated he had guns and bombs and started making demands. The total list of his demands are over at http://savetheplanetprotest.com/

He was in there for four hours before it finally came to the point where the Maryland Police fatally shot James Jay Lee.
Earlier today, a gunman entered Discovery Channel‘s headquarters with a gun or some explosives (reports are still coming in), took some employees hostage, and demanded better science programming.
SILVER SPRING, Md. — Police shot and killed a man armed with several bombs who held three hostages Wednesday at the Discovery Communications building. Authorities said the hostages were safe.
At least one device on the man’s body went off when he was shot inside the building in suburban Washington, D.C., Montgomery County police Chief Thomas Manger said. Police were searching the building for other explosive devices.

The Discovery Channel and it’s affiliate channels MUST have daily television programs at prime time slots based on Daniel Quinn’s “My Ishmael” pages 207-212 where solutions to save the planet would be done in the same way as the Industrial Revolution was done, by people building on each other’s inventive ideas. Focus must be given on how people can live WITHOUT giving birth to more filthy human children since those new additions continue pollution and are pollution. A game show format contest would be in order. Perhaps also forums of leading scientists who understand and agree with the Malthus-Darwin science and the problem of human overpopulation. Do both. Do all until something WORKS and the natural world starts improving and human civilization building STOPS and is reversed! MAKE IT INTERESTING SO PEOPLE WATCH AND APPLY SOLUTIONS!!!!
2. All programs on Discovery Health-TLC must stop encouraging the birth of any more parasitic human infants and the false heroics behind those actions. In those programs’ places, programs encouraging human sterilization and infertility must be pushed. All former pro-birth programs must now push in the direction of stopping human birth, not encouraging it.
3. All programs promoting War and the technology behind those must cease. There is no sense in advertising weapons of mass-destruction anymore. Instead, talk about ways to disassemble civilization and concentrate the message in finding SOLUTIONS to solving global military mechanized conflict. Again, solutions solutions instead of just repeating the same old wars with newer weapons. Also, keep out the fraudulent peace movements. They are liars and fakes and had no real intention of ending the wars. ALL OF THEM ARE FAKE! On one hand, they claim they want the wars to end, on the other, they are demanding the human population increase. World War II had 2 Billion humans and after that war, the people decided that tripling the population would assure peace. WTF??? STUPIDITY! MORE HUMANS EQUALS MORE WAR!
4. Civilization must be exposed for the filth it is. That, and all its disgusting religious-cultural roots and greed. Broadcast this message until the pollution in the planet is reversed and the human population goes down! This is your obligation. If you think it isn’t, then get hell off the planet! Breathe Oil! It is the moral obligation of everyone living otherwise what good are they??
5. Immigration: Programs must be developed to find solutions to stopping ALL immigration pollution and the anchor baby filth that follows that. Find solutions to stopping it. Call for people in the world to develop solutions to stop it completely and permanently. Find solutions FOR these countries so they stop sending their breeding populations to the US and the world to seek jobs and therefore breed more unwanted pollution babies. FIND SOLUTIONS FOR THEM TO STOP THEIR HUMAN GROWTH AND THE EXPORTATION OF THAT DISGUSTING FILTH! (The first world is feeding the population growth of the Third World and those human families are going to where the food is! They must stop procreating new humans looking for nonexistant jobs!)
6. Find solutions for Global Warming, Automotive pollution, International Trade, factory pollution, and the whole blasted human economy. Find ways so that people don’t build more housing pollution which destroys the environment to make way for more human filth! Find solutions so that people stop breeding as well as stopping using Oil in order to REVERSE Global warming and the destruction of the planet!
7. Develop shows that mention the Malthusian sciences about how food production leads to the overpopulation of the Human race. Talk about Evolution. Talk about Malthus and Darwin until it sinks into the stupid people’s brains until they get it!!
8. Saving the Planet means saving what’s left of the non-human Wildlife by decreasing the Human population. That means stopping the human race from breeding any more disgusting human babies! You’re the media, you can reach enough people. It’s your resposibility because you reach so many minds!!!
9. Develop shows that will correct and dismantle the dangerous US world economy. Find solutions for their disasterous Ponzi-Casino economy before they take the world to another nuclear war.
10. Stop all shows glorifying human birthing on all your channels and on TLC. Stop Future Weapons shows or replace the dialogue condemning the people behind these developments so that the shows become exposes rather than advertisements of Arms sales and development!
11. You’re also going to find solutions for unemployment and housing. All these unemployed people makes me think the US is headed toward more war.

You MUST KNOW the human population is behind all the pollution and problems in the world, and YET you encourage the exact opposite instead of discouraging human growth and procreation. Surely you MUST ALREADY KNOW this!

Ok, now I just want to make it clear that I support my wife 100% in whatever endeavor she want’s to get involved with. Especially if it’s going to result in additional income for us to help clean up some bills. But, PLEASE, someone help me out here.
Our house in the span of three short weeks has turned into a 31 Designs showroom and warehouse. I’m not really complaining (much), because there’s some cool stuff for Mitchell, the house, etc.
I really want to see this take of for Sherry as it would definitely make her happy. And we all know that when the wife is happy, we are happy. :)

Yeah, yeah, I know, you’ve all probably all read about all the nifty new jazzy over priced Apple stuff. What’s that you say? You haven’t seen anything about an Apple event? What, you been living in a black hole or something?
Well, for those of you that haven’t heard, Apple had another event today. They live streamed it. I wasn’t able to watch, but I’ve seen some of the stuff that came out of it and I’m going to give you a quick run down:
Ipod Nano
There’s a NEW re-designed Nano and it looks closer to a shuffle sized iPod. But it’s got a cool new touch screen, lost the camera, now supports Nike+, a pedometer, 24 hour of battery life and they brought the radio back. I do have to say though, for as small as the Nano is, it’s pretty much a shuffle with a screen. I’m not saying that I don’t like it, but it seems as though there’s a touch screen on just about everything Apple. I can see it being not too far down the road when they introduce a MacBook Pro with a touch screen as well as a desktop with one.
iPod Shuffle
Yes, Apple re-designed the Shuffle yet again. They brought back the click wheel and remains the same size however, this one also adds Genius mixes into it.
iPod Touch
This was apparently the main event for the iPod family as it announced that the iPod Touch will now run iOS 4.1. It was touted as the number one portable game machine in the world beating the DS and the PSP. The Touch will have the Retina Display, the A4 processor, a rear facing camera with video and front-facing camera for FaceTime. It will also come with Game Center (discussed later).

This will fix many bugs and introduce several new features. Some of these new features are:
HDR photos
Game Center
Uploading full HD videos over Wi-Fi
TV show rentals
Major bug fixes
Air Play (updated version of AirTunes that iTunes shares with AirPort Express which also allows video and photos.
It would also gain support for the new music-focused social networking service called Ping. it’s built into the new iTunes (iTunes 10) and will be part of the iTunes store application on iOS devices.
There was also a preview of iOS 4.2 which will be free to owners of iOS devices and it arrives in November for the iPad. Features similar to that of 4.1 will be included like Game Center and HDR photos as well as AirPlay and printing.
Apple TV
Apple has introduced a new Apple TV product. it’s smaller, has ethernet, HDMI, 802.1n Wi-Fi, included remote, a new user interface. There’s no storage in it, but you can stream media from your Mac or even the PC. You can rent movies from iTunes and stream from Netflix, MobileMe and YouTube as well as being able to listen to both the radio and podcasts.
GameCenter
Basically, it’s going to do what Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo and others have done with their social gaming networks. It’s going to provide better ways to game with friends, or if you don’t have any friends because you’re too busy playing games in your parents basement, it’ll match you up with people to play with. Epic Games’ President Mike Capps was also on stage with Jobs to announce Code Name: Project Sword. Which according to iOS Central shows that Apple is taking gaming seriously.
Hmmm, I wonder how long it’ll be before Apple get’s into the gaming console industry. I also would like to see what that console would look like, what actual OS it would run (Mac OS, iOS or a new version) and where it would get it’s games from? Would it pull from current manufacturers? Would it allow the App Store developers to write games? Only time will tell.

This is a decent case. I always have liked the iFrogz whether it be for the iPod or the iPhone. Great cases, sturdy, stylish and they fit great.
When I got this case, I only wish I would have been able to get it in black or grey, but all they had when I picked it up was the green one or the hot pink one. Guess which one I went with. ;)
Anyhow, it fit great, was easy to put the phone into and I never had an issue with it. Kept the phone nice, scratch free and didn’t interfere with any of the buttons or connections on it. Overall, for $20.00 it’s not that bad a deal. You can get it some places for cheaper, it’s all how long you want to wait and if you want to handle it before you buy it or not.
I like the case. I like the way it looks, I like that it’s a hard shell, I like the protection that it gives.
I just got it today, so I’ll see how it holds up, but my initial thoughts are that I’m going to have an issue with the top button. In the case, it’s hard to depress. That doesn’t give me a warm and fuzzy. The volume buttons on the side work fine, no problems there.
There’s no issues plugging in either the charger or the earphones, the sound quality is still good, no issues otherwise.
I’m not going to complain mainly because it’s free, but I don’t know if I’d have spent the $25.00 on this one or not. Never know though.
Either way, those are my initial thoughts. We’ll see if it holds up to my abuse.
Well, it appears he’s at it again with a new project he’s working on (At least I think he is, no real hints on what it is yet and I’ve only seen a tweet or two about it on Twitter) as well as moving to Colorado AND a new website design. I didn’t realize at the time he was using WordPress, but found out he was with this latest post and found that I like his new design better. The last design was specifically pointed to his books in the 7th Son trilogy. This new one I think has a better flow for him as it doesn’t just focus on one specific piece and allows him to be more broad in what he’s doing. He still has the 7th Son theme up with his information about it, but this new look fits his overall presence on the web much better.
Here’s to the Hutch making a comeback and congratulations on the new design and good luck on the move.
Now this is pretty cool, I personally don’t have a huge need for flasks other than taking one when camping or hiking, etc, but this would be pretty cool to have. That is if you’ve got the extra scratch you don’t want to spend on something else.
